SkateOregon has failed Coos Bay badly. I extend my sincere apologies for the outdated and lack of information posted here. People of Coos Bay were super organized and shot for the moon with their new park. The old park has been torn out. Unfortunately I received a lot of different and conflicting information in 2008, so I am going to let you find what you will via Google. I'll visit Coos Bay in 2009 if the new park is open. Peace. -Sam
Skate boarders will soon be rolling around on an expensive new skate park, as the Coos Bay City Council approves to continue with construction, despite being thousands of dollars over budget.
With an initial budget cap of $80,000, construction on the Coos Bay Skate Park was approved June of last year.
Now, more than half-a-year later, the city finds themselves over budget by roughly $37,000 and that's not counting the remaining costs to finish the project.
According to City Manager Chuck Freeman, mistakes were made by both sides concerning the capital expenditures, but council members agreed that the mishap shouldn't be at the expense of the skate boarders.
Council member Mark Daily says it's disheartening it's gone this far over budget, but the project itself is not a total loss.
After adopting the supplemental budget of $90,000 Tuesday, the final phase of construction is expected to start immediately, weather permitting.
