Gold Beach

Status: Organizing and fundraising (fall 2004)

Organization: Gold Beach Skate Park Committee

History: Jesse McDowell (and others?) built some wooden ramps so they could skate in their home town. Principle Bill Stuart of Gold Beach High School kindly let the Gold Beach Skate Park Committee put the ramps on an old tennis court behind the high school. The wooden ramps are temporary -and have been for several years- but the Skate Park Committee is gaining momentum. $25,000 has been raised and a plot of land within downtown has been cited. Once an area has been secured, the Gold Beach Skate Park Committee will apply for larger grants and look forward to a concrete park of their own.
The Gold Beach Skate Park Committee has been able to watch the progression and impact of concrete parks in neighbor cities, Brookings to the south and Port Orford to the north (see map below). The observations could serve advantages in planning and set high goals for the Gold Beach concrete park.

Timeline: Idea initiated in 1998. Current goal is a complete park by ???.
